About Gary

Instructor. Veteran. Repair Specialist.

Gary Liebmann has spent years diving and teaching in Hawaii — and he brings that same expertise to every piece of gear that comes through his shop.

Meet Gary Liebmann

A dual-certified SSI and PADI MSDT instructor — and a service-connected disabled veteran — who services every make and model of scuba gear on Oahu. No chain shop. Just a specialist who dives here too.

Gary has been diving and teaching in Hawaii for years. As an SSI Instructor and PADI MSDT, he has trained hundreds of divers and knows exactly how gear should perform underwater.

His military background as a service-connected disabled veteran means every repair is approached with precision and accountability. He services all makes and models — if it goes underwater, he can fix it.

Based in Hawaii Kai on Oahu, Gary dives these reefs and understands firsthand what Hawaiian waters demand from your equipment. When you bring your gear to Gary, you're not handing it to a technician who has never been in the water — you're handing it to someone who depends on the same equipment you do.

Community Leadership

Ocean Defenders Alliance

Gary is an advisory board member and serves as the chapter and dive leader for Ocean Defenders Alliance on Oahu — a nonprofit dedicated to removing debris from Hawaii's reefs and coastlines. He leads boat cleanups, organizes He'eia Pier cleanups, and has helped remove hundreds of pounds of lead fishing weights, thousands of feet of fishing line, and massive tire deposits from reefs across the island.

He's a dive instructor and is really dedicated to giving back to the oceans. When you make your living by teaching dive skills, he sees firsthand all the damage that humans are causing.

Gary lives on Oahu and knows the reefs like few others do. He's the lead diver on all our boat cleanups and helps organize the He'eia Pier cleanups we do.

Gary's skills underwater have helped us remove hundreds of pounds of lead fishing weights from the heavily fished areas all around the island, as well as thousands of feet of fishing lines from the coastal reefs. He's also been an integral part of the massive tire removals that we've done over the years.

Cleaning up after outings can be laborious, but Gary always sticks with it right to the end! In fact, he's become our official debris weigher.

I can tell you Gary is a blast to be with and makes friends with everyone. He's a great organizer and ODA has benefited from his professionalism, leadership, and passion for keeping our reefs healthy and happy! Thank you, Gary, for being a top-notch Ocean Defender!
